The Official Tolerable Chick Flick List
If I'm forced to watch a Chick Flick, I want a couple of things in it.First, the chick has to be hot.
Okay - I was just kidding...kinda.
I'm gonna need some humor and I'm gonna need some sarcasm.
It would help if the movie had a hint of reality/responsibility. No slapping a kid on an airplane from Seattle to New York. No "My whole life was meaningless until you arrived" romanticism.
Only the top one is ranked. Why? Because the differences between the films are so insignificant, you would have to score an 87 or higher on a Nerd Test for it to matter.
Casablanca - This might be one of the greatest movies of all time. If you haven't seen it , it is obvious you are not a movie lover.
The REST of the REST
The Princess Bride - Amy is arguing that this isn't a chick flick. Well, it's my list. If she doesn't want to include it in her's, that's fine. It's got a girl, true love, rescue the princess, kill the bad guy, and Billy Crystal.
While You Were Sleeping - The greatest exchange in Chick Flick history. "You suck" "I suck or the outfit sucks?" "It's a toss-up."
A League of their Own - I know, "not a chick-flick." Yes it is. It is about WOMEN'S BASEBALL. That alone qualifies it. The fact that you get to see Tom Hanks in a demeaning, sarcastic attitude the whole film makes it watchable. So many one-liners in this film. "I loved you in the Wizard of Oz."
One Fine Day - Clooney and Pfeifer are hilarious. Amanda Peete is quite funny. Marble up the nose humor goes a long way.
Miss Cogeniality - You just gotta love Sandra Bullock. Captain Kirk and Michael Caine steal the show.
Sweet Home Alabama - The movie is okay. Just has Alabama in it. On second thought - avoid this film. It's got major gush in it.
You've Got Mail - Dave Chappelle is hilarious. "She makes coffee nervous."
Return To Me - Cool story, spiritual tie ins everywhere, plus Carroll O'Connor's final film, Belushi add some serious laughs. "Everyone just calm the down."
Chasing Liberty - don't really love the movie but was filmed in Prague, my favorite city, and it was cool to see where we walked.
HONORABLE MENTIONS FOR A SERIOUS DISCUSSION NIGHT
Now I am going to throw two movies at you that I think every married couple should watch, then go out for coffee for 2 hours and talk about. They bring up MAJOR issues that I think most of us married folk are uncomfortable talking about.
Moulin Rogue
This isn't a kids movie, folks. How far would you pursue your love? What would keep you from chasing after her/him? Plus the '80s music is cool. What kind of tests could your love stand?
Lost In Translation
Funny and raw. Bill Murray's on the bed thinking about cheating on his wife is the best written and acted scene I've seen on this topic ever.
Okay - I think I am done.
